Jurong Innovation District to Be Industrial District for Advanced Manufacturing in Singapore

Singapore is moving towards an even more advanced manufacturing industry with its Jurong Innovation District (JID). The JID is set to become a global hub for advanced manufacturing and engineering, with a focus on new and disruptive technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and additive manufacturing. The district will be a catalyst for the development of a competitive, dynamic, and highly skilled manufacturing industry in the city-state, which is already one of the most competitive countries in the world in terms of manufacturing.

The JID will be a showcase of Singapore’s commitment to innovation and technological advancement, as the city-state moves towards JCube Condo becoming the world’s first “Smart Nation”. The district will house a range of new and advanced manufacturing facilities, including research and development centers, engineering and manufacturing firms, and innovation-related research labs. It will also feature a range of amenities such as public spaces, retail and F&B outlets, and office buildings.

To further support the development of advanced manufacturing in Singapore, the government has set up the Jurong Innovation District Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering (JID-AME) Program. This program provides businesses and organizations with access to funding and other resources to develop new and innovative manufacturing and engineering technologies. Through this program, businesses and organizations can gain access to resources such as technical expertise, funding, and access to research and development (R&D) facilities.

The development of the JID is a major part of Singapore’s efforts to transform itself into a “Smart Nation” and to further diversify and strengthen its economy. As part of this effort, the government is also providing incentives to attract companies and organizations to the JID, including tax incentives, subsidies, and other incentives.

The success of the JID will depend on the commitment of businesses and organizations to the district and the willingness of the government to provide the necessary resources and support. With the right resources and support, the JID will become an integral part of Singapore’s economy and a major contributor to its manufacturing and engineering industry.

The Singaporean government has announced plans to transform Jurong into the country’s first industrial district for advanced manufacturing. The Jurong Innovation District (JID) will be developed over the next 10 to 15 years and will be a hub for research, development and deployment of advanced manufacturing technologies.

The JID will be a multi-sector, multi-disciplinary platform that encourages the collaboration of industry, academia, government and other stakeholders to create a vibrant ecosystem for advanced manufacturing. The aim is to drive productivity and innovation, create high-value jobs, and develop advanced skillsets among the workforce.

The JID will be centred around five advanced manufacturing clusters – robotics, autonomous systems, advanced materials, precision engineering and digital manufacturing. These clusters will be supported by a range of manufacturing-related activities, such as research and development, education and training, incubation and acceleration, and enterprise support.

The JID will be connected to the Jurong Lake District, which is home to the Jurong East MRT interchange, Westgate and IMM Building. This will provide the JID with excellent transport accessibility and a vibrant urban environment.

The JID will be a major source of employment for Singaporeans, with the government expecting to create up to 28,000 jobs over the next 10 to 15 years. These jobs will be mainly in the high-value manufacturing sector, such as robotics, smart systems, advanced materials, precision engineering and digital manufacturing.

The JID is part of Singapore’s ongoing efforts to develop its advanced manufacturing sector and position itself as a global player in this field. The government is also investing in research and development, creating a national innovation infrastructure, and providing incentives for firms to set up advanced Hillhaven manufacturing operations in Singapore.

The JID is an important step in Singapore’s journey to become an industrial powerhouse in advanced manufacturing. With its excellent transport links, strong government support and access to a world-class pool of talent, Singapore is well placed to become a major player in this industry.
